Did you know that August 1-7 is recognized as World Breastfeeding Month?
The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) was formed in 1991 to act on the Innocenti Declaration to protect, promote and support breastfeeding. As part of its action plan to facilitate and strengthen social mobilization for breastfeeding, WABA envisioned a global unifying breastfeeding promotion strategy. A day of celebration quickly turned into a week and has become known worldwide as World Breastfeeding Week, which is celebrated every August 1-7. The first celebration was in 1992 and now involves over 170 countries and is endorsed by UNICEF, WHO, FAO and IPA.
Last year, RCH received national recognition as a Baby Friendly Hospital in which we strongly support mothers through their whole breastfeeding experience. Riverside Community Hospital is one out of 143 active Baby-Friendly hospitals and birth centers in the United States and the first HCA hospital to achieve this designation.
